Watching people on my F-List post pics of their lovely homemade bento lunches left me feeling inspired. Being in possession of one lovely (but not 'kawaii' cute) box that was my parting gift from the school when I left JET, I decided to give it a go. This is not the very first bento I've packed but it is the first I've taken a picture of:

Lower Tier: Tropical fish shape cut out of coocoo (a Caribbean cornmeal and okra dish), and given stripes by cutting out sections and filling them with callaloo (spinach and coconut milk soup). It's swimming in a sea of red beans and stewed chicken with a little steamed cabbage 'seaweed'.
Top Tier: A banana flower with an apple wedge hummingbird, with grapes as filler.
Cheating in that all the actual cooking was my mother's work. If somebody else doesn't feed me during exam season I would very likely starve. I just cut, carved, decorated and positioned it all as a way of taking a creative break from the textbooks. ;D
