Essentially another stupid vulture has decided that all this 'fanfic' thing lying around the internet could be easy money. He's trying to buy up fan-run archives with a mind to making mucho moolah for himself and something about 'dominating fandom'. Mind you, this is someone so outside of fandom he didn't even know the terms 'canon' or 'slash'. Of course people aren't happy with the idea of someone else profiting off their hours of labor, or the legal entanglements of profiting off fanfic at all, and have been pulling their fic off the archive in question in droves. No 'product' = no traffic = no profit, exactly the way it should be for this exploitative, lazy bastard.
This is about the third such incident I can recall of a male outsider presence butting into a mostly female venture and trying to profit or control it or define it, because we ladies supposedly don't know what we're about. The gender politicking behind this woman-work, man-profit thing disgusts me on more than just a fandom level. There's something almost colonial about it as well that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The invader comes, carves up the turf for his own purposes, attempts to commandeer the locals as free labor to profit greatly on their backs while disrupting, if not utterly destroying the local culture. Thankfully the internet ain't having that. Somewhere this little boy is being schooled about trying to make money off someone else's intellectual property. Tolkien's at that. I hope the estate sues his lonely little pube off.
