Inspiration for Seph and Aeris hit me while I was heaping much luff on Zack, oddly enough. Seems his seiyuu, Suzumura Kenichi, is also the voice of Rakushun from Twelve Kingdoms. Rakushun is just the cuddliest, lovingest, giant rat I could ever hope to find, so smart and sweet and kind and just an all-round good person. His momma raised him right. I can't help liking him, especially when he takes his nekkid human form. XD

Maybe Suzumura-san is getting typecast as adorable shweetie pies, but he does it so well, I've got no cause for complaints.

Oh, right, you're here for the ficcage. =P

Title: Dark Promise
Prompt: 019 - White
Characters: Sephiroth, Aeris
Word Count: 125
Rating: R

Pretty girl, so innocent, praying in a crystal church. Pray for them, pray for the world, pray for him.

Do you like him? Do you want him as your lover? Do you want to be his wife?

You want to go back when it’s all over, don’t you? To be with him, at his side, to bear his blue-eyed children even.

And how will that start? With a ring offered on bended knee? Flowers and bells and a rain of white rice? A white dress and a sheer white veil over your innocent eyes?

I hope you won’t be too disappointed, dear. There’ll be no chance of that when I’m through with you. The only white veil you will ever have will be a shroud.

Title: Too Much Wine
Prompt: 016 - Purple
Characters: Sephiroth, Aeris
Word Count: 100
Rating: PG

Sephiroth stared with brazen, fiery passion into the limpid, emerald pools that were Aeris’ expressive eyes and saw that same smoldering ardor reflected from the sparkling depths. He marveled at the ethereal flawlessness of her alabaster skin. Her moist lips were a perfect cupid’s bow, ruby red and lusciously inviting. He was filled with that undeniable, irresistible male urge to exert his claim over her fragile, feminine form. He bent low, ready to bestow the gift of the gods upon her when she put a slender finger against his lips.

“Hold up, Seph, I think I’m going to be sick.”

Title: Counting Down
Prompt: 006 - Hours
Characters: Sephiroth, Aeris
Word Count: 530
Rating: PG
Genre: AU (Marriage!verse)

Sephiroth measured the years he was worrying off his life in racing heartbeats. He actually twitched when Aeris gently nudged his elbow to hand him a cup of tea.

“Calm down, Seph.” She leaned her head against his arm and joined him at waiting by the window. “There’s plenty of time yet.”

Sephiroth glanced back at the clock. It had just been a few hours, but they were past the halfway point now, closer to the end than to the beginning. There had been no emergency calls and if one were completely objective, it was hardly a dangerous situation, especially considering everything else he had already been through.

But Sephiroth couldn’t be completely objective. He took a deep breath and tried to sip his tea. It was lightly sweetened and well-spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg and a hint of orange zest, a blend that he usually liked. Tonight he could barely taste it. He appreciated what Aeris was trying to do at any rate.

He sighed heavily. “I know there’s time. That doesn’t mean I have to like it.”

Aeris laughed. “Honey, we knew this day would come. You said it yourself. You’ve been saying it for years, in fact.”

“I was trying to make myself get used to it.” Sephiroth frowned down into his teacup. “It didn’t work.”

“Poor baby.” Aeris kissed his arm. “You are making me wonder though… You think my father would have acted the same?”

“You went on your first date with Zack! Of course he would have,” Sephiroth snorted. “There’s no greater reason for a father to worry. ‘Cept maybe Reno.”

Aeris laughed. “Well, then you ought to calm down some. That boy she’s out there with isn’t either one of them.”

Sephiroth frowned. “He could be one of their bastard spawn from back in the day.”

“Honestly, you,” Aeris rubbed her head on his arm. “If it makes you feel any better, she’s armed.”

“What?”

“She’s armed and possibly dangerous. You, sir, have managed to make our daughter just as paranoid as you are. I got her to leave the guns at home but she kept a combat knife and a switchblade and I don’t know what else she had hidden on her when she walked out the door.”

“Smart girl!” Sephiroth grinned. “Always walk with protection on a date, just in case.”

“Not that kind of protection.” Aeris rolled her eyes. “And not for dinner and a movie, at any rate.”

“What better than that? If he gets too touchy-feely, wham! No more hand!”

“Seph, that kind of behavior just scares everybody away. Permanently.” Aeris stared down at her tea leaves. “Besides, did it ever occur to you that maybe she might want boys to get touchy-feely at some point?”

Sephiroth’s eye twitched. “Want… them… to?” His teacup began to clatter on the saucer.

“Oh, dear,” Aeris sighed and took the cup away. Sephiroth began frantically looking back and forth from the clock to the driveway. Aeris went back to the kitchen. They still had a couple of hours to go till curfew and if Sephiroth was going to make it in one piece, they were going to need something much stronger than tea.

Title: Mistaken Identity
Prompt: 049 - Club
Characters: Sephiroth, Aeris
Word Count: 514
Rating: PG-13

The slums were as far away as one could get from the bureaucracy and politics on the plate on short notice. Sephiroth would grab a hooded cloak and tramp down there for a while whenever the anger and frustration got to him and killing people wasn’t an option.

The cloak gave him anonymity. The crime rate, the law enforcement that looked the other way and the general way people had of minding their own business down there gave him freedom. He did things his status and position never let him do in peace on the plate. He picked the seediest bars and soaked up the alcohol. He picked on thugs just to make himself feel better. He ate cheap take-out and hot dogs from street carts and liked them much better than either caviar or rations. This was living.

That would have had society in an uproar. Imagine, the refined, wealthy General Sephiroth, out slumming, down there with all the riffraff. Well, he was a young man, he was bound to be a little… adventurous, sowing his wild oats and all that.

He wasn’t really, or hadn’t yet. Anonymous trysting wasn’t something within his reach, not with his features, and keeping the cloak on would have been damned suspicious. But the girl who stepped up beside him as he stood on the street corner waiting to cross caught his eye. He was down here to get away from it all and he might as well sample all the slums had to offer.

She was young, fresh-looking, probably still new to it. From what he could see out of the corner of his eyes, her pink dress was cut a bit low, but not thoroughly revealing. She was pretty enough and if he was careful, maybe she wouldn’t ask too many questions about the cloak.

“How much?”

“One gil,” she answered cheerily. Definitely new to it.

“Just one gil for a pretty girl like you? I’m sure you could get one hundred, easily.”

She was silent. He turned slightly to get a better look at her, careful not to let the glow of his eyes show directly.

She stared up at him with her eyes wide and her face turning red. Even her shoulders were blushing and he thought that it really was quite cute in the half-second before it hit him that if she had been what he thought she was, she probably wouldn’t have been blushing.

Then the shock wore off and she was livid. “You jerk! I’m selling flowers, you rotten, no-good punk!”

It was then that he spotted the wicker basket full of lilies she had been holding. He froze, staring, wondering how in all the world could he have possibly made a mistake that stupid. The wondering was why he didn’t see the staff she swung at him.

Her grip was all wrong for the weapon but it cracked him in the knee hard enough anyway. He gasped and hunched over and watched her march indignantly away.

That was the very last time Sephiroth ever considered acquiring himself a hooker.

Title: Promise
Prompt: 066 - Rain
Characters: Kadaj
Word Count: 100
Rating: PG

The rain came down but that was all right. It didn’t burn anymore.

“Kadaj?”

The voice seemed familiar but the harder he reached for the memory, the further it slipped away. That was all right too. The memory probably wasn’t even his, not really.

It must have been Mother. There couldn’t be any other whose voice would reach into his soul, his soul like that. That promise felt familiar too.

He must have refused it once, long ago, when it had been his turn, but he wasn’t in control now. Kadaj smiled up at the rain and reached for love.
